COVID-19 Updates: rent & utility assistance, delivery/take-out food & more

In the wake of suspended operations across Colorado due to the COVID-19 pandemic (including a 30-day closure of all Denver’s bar/restaurant dine-in services), many workers are left uncertain and impacted by the temporary closures. The impacts are far-reaching, from employment, financial stability and paying bills/rent, to staying healthy and having access to food, medicine and essentials.

Here are some resources to utilize, whether it’s rent and utilities assistance, filing for unemployment, or finding local food spots offering delivery and pick-up:

UNEMPLOYMENT

The Colo. Dept. of Labor and Employment announced Monday Colorado workers affected by the COVID-19 closures are eligible to receive unemployment benefits. In an unprecedented wave of unemployment, 10,700 claims were received Monday and Tuesday alone.

RENT & UTILITY ASSISTANCE

The Temporary Rental and Utility Assistance Program (TRUA) offers resources to Denver residents who are facing a housing crisis or hardship to prevent displacement. If you can’t pay rent or need help with utilities, TRUA can offer up to 80 percent of rent paid and assistance paying utilities.

Mile High United Way is another organization that can provide more information and resources on housing stability.

If you plan to utilize a rental assistance program and need supporting documents, please send us an email here with your name, building and unit number. You can access a copy of your lease via the RENTCafe resident portal.
